Healthy Schools Highlight

This past June, twenty-three staff members including our Healthy Schools Leaders and Kaiser Thriving Schools Grant Health Coaches had the amazing opportunity to attend the Healthy Schools Leadership Retreat in Vail, Colorado. This special event was funded by the Colorado Health Foundation and presented by RMC Health, the Colorado Department of Education, the Colorado Education Initiative, and Kaiser Permanente. With a goal to create a sustainable healthy school culture, the leadership retreat brought nearly 500 participants together for two days to increase knowledge surrounding the health and well-being of children and youth.

American Heart Association

Wow, what an incredible year with DCSD and the American Heart Association.  As a district, we achieved a Platinum Status with the AHA’s Fit Friendly Worksite Wellness Program.  We are so proud of this accomplishment and truly committed to the health of our employees and students alike.  We had 31 schools complete a Jump Rope or Hoops for Heart event last year, raising over $200,000 towards the mission of building healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.  Truly incredible!  The AHA was able to give back $12,700 in US Games certificates for your schools to update and purchase new PE equipment, as well as provide access to heart healthy lesson plans and guides to educate students in every area of learning.  The AHA was also able to fund $9.5 million dollars and 53 projects in Colorado this year, investing in future achievements in heart health and stroke.  We are so incredibly thankful to our volunteers for their commitment to heart health education in DCSD through the AHA; none of the above would be possible without you!  We hope to extend our reach this year to even more families, bringing this important message to as many people as possible.

Please contact Morgan June at morgan.june@heart.org for more information on how you can help support the mission of the AHA and join in the fun!
